This perfect light weight throw is made from the softest Belgian linen reflecting the city meets country style vibe at the heart of Hawkins New York. Founders and designers Nick Blaine and Paul Denoly, recognizing a lack of range in small-scale home goods production, founded HNY the to incorporate the concept of artisanal production with a modern sensibility in design. Their linen sheets are to die for - both affordable and in the most amazing colors!
Collectable...VITRA
From VITRA's Mid-19th Century Modern Wall Clock Collection, comes a reissue of George Nelson's Ball Clock made in Europe of Brass and Beechwood. Based in Switzerland, Vitra is a family owned furniture company that also creates elevated retail environments.
Must Have... ROLLBAHN
Made in Japan of heavy weight graph paper, Rollbahn notebooks are my go to for sketching new designs for Ilsa Loves Rick and for working out site logistics for the art installations I make with TangenT. At 5 x 7 its small enough to tote around, and the 5mm graph size is just perfect. The multiple interior pockets and elastic closure keeps loose papers where they belong.
Loving... Hay
Just off of Hojbro Plaz in Copenhagen is Hay House, the perfectly styled atelier of the Hay brand. When I first visited there in 2016, I fell in love with their wares which include everything from fabric to furniture, objects, home goods, and accessories for daily living. Returning home, I was excited to see that the Museum of Modern Art Design Store carries a growing collection from the brand. Modern, minimal, and marked by surprising use of color, there isn't a thing they design from a paper clip to a plate, that I don't covet.
Must Have... Life Brand Stationary
I just love the old fashioned look of this writing pad, perfect horizontal lines with a cover that lifts vertically. Slightly larger than my small moleskine reporters notebook - 7.25 x 10.25, I have a pile of two or three in all of my workspaces.
Crushing on... Cold Picnic
Whether you are in the market for a rug, throw pillow, or planter, Cold Picnic founding partners Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer have designed perfectly whimsical objects for your home. The duo formed Cold Picnic in 2010 after digging through library book sales for all things 1970s arts & crafts, ancient cave paintings, African textiles, and Native American history. Each piece is made by hand. I am in love with the above throw blanket named Shipwrecked in a gorgeous 80%recycled cotton. Cold Picnic carries on the tradition of storytelling through symbols.
