Since 2012 Bellyhead, (the genius behind the beauty and style blog Wondegondigo) has been taking the mystery out of finding the best beauty products while giving her readers practical advise on make up application and style trends. "Beauty blogging is a wonderful niche. It can present a real-person's view of beauty product experiences. I always appreciate other blogs that can tell a story about their beauty loves and all the details of the whys and the wherefores. It's been so fun finding my own audience while ruminating in minutae about something I enjoy so much. In addition, having a blog allows me explore my sometimes own ambivalent feelings about the endless acquisition aspect of my hobby. I wanted a little digital space to work those feeling out. It's been a gratifying thing to learn that I have a whole readership that often share the same murky feelings as well as exuberant love for beauty." My blog contents relate very closely to my own personal preferences for elevated aesthetics and luxurious product execution. Majority of my favorite brands are Japanese ones, but I am always drawn to anything that hews closely to my need for beautiful textures!
What is your current obsession?
Related to beauty, I am starting on a journey to learn more about perfumes. I love that there is a whole language and vocabulary that is both technical and personal. I don't have a keen nose, but I'm up for the challenge to learn and become more fluent in this new language.
What are you listening to or reading?
Lately, I have gotten back into reading and finishing books in quick succession. I just started to read "To Kill a Mockingbird." I'm not sure how I've missed this one, but I am on a mission to read classics that I've neglected.
Music hasn't been a big thing for me recently, but I am a voracious listener of public radio. New York's local public radio station, WNYC, is on all the time in my office. I listen to it during my commute, and I catch up on missed shows through podcasts.
What is your dream project?
Ah! To actually have a beautifully maintained garden would be a dream come true! I've moved to where I can finally have space for gardening, but my recent forays in gardening have been mostly misses. I would be so delighted to have several flowering peony bushes. This year, a very large groundhog ate all my peony plants that I planted two years ago. I was looking forward to some blooms next year! That was heartbreaking and who knew groundhogs look like stumpy house cats and eat peony plants?
What is your go to uniform?
I actually work in the fashion industry, but I don't spend a lot of time thinking about clothes! I like simple and streamlined things that feel good against my skin. Even more importantly, comfort generally trumps everything else! I am often wearing a merino wool v-neck sweater from UNIQLO (I have multiples of them) in a neutral shade over skinny jeans. I'm really fond of a most incredibly comfortable pair from Eileen Fisher. I tend to wear the same thick soled boots in the winter time. I always carry around a long cashmere wrap because it's too cold everywhere I go and it makes a great versatile scarf or wrap.
What is the best fashion advice anyone ever gave you? My mom said to always go for quality because it endures. My best investments are those that become weathered and more loved over time. Very old denim, super soft cashmere, and banged up leather have a wonderful patina that suit me.
